01 / The Brief

Classical musicfor younger ears

Philharmoniker Hamburg wanted to bring classical music closer
to younger audiences without lowering the orchestra's standard.

Classical music was transferred into the logic of a messenger app. Instead of emojis, users send Acousticons. They are animated note characters with their own personality and a short piece of orchestral music.

02 / Acousticons

Ten characters,ten emotions

Each Acousticon combines a musical term with an emotion. Adagio stands for melancholy, allegro for celebration, furioso for anger and accarezzevole for passion.

The Acousticons are derived from note pictograms and emojis. As black 3D figures, they feel playful, express different emotions and bring classical music closer to a younger audience.

03 / The App

Moodattached

The app uses a familiar messenger structure. Choose a recipient, write a message and attach an Acousticon. When opened, character and music appear together.

The app was available as a free download. Black note characters sit on reduced white interface surfaces. A QR code leads directly to the concert box office.

04 / Campaign

Postersthat play

A cinema spot brought the Acousticons to the big screen.
A poster series for Mozart, Brahms and Schumann
extended the campaign.

Each composer had a distinct colour,
while the character group remained
the recurring motif.

OOH ads led directly to the app via QR code. The project was awarded Red Dot Best of the Best in Illustration and App Design.
